What is labiaplasty
Labiaplasty (labia plastic surgery) is a surgical procedure aimed at restoration of the shape and size of the external genitalia (labia majora and labia minora). Excessive length, asymmetry of the organ causes discomfort when wearing tight-fitting clothes, riding a bicycle, wearing certain types of undergarment. Systematic irritation significantly worsens the quality of life, prevents women from relaxing in bed and getting vivid sexual sensations.
Feedback from patients indicated that they also resort to labiaplasty after age-related or hormonal changes, when the labia start growing excessively. There are also some cases of congenital characteristics.
Correction of the shape and size of the external genitalia is carried out in different ways. The optimal method will be chosen by plastic surgeon Pavel Denishchuk at a personal consultation. The type of correction depends on the size and condition of the labia, patient’s lifestyle.
How is it possible to understand that labiaplasty is needed? The labia minora are of normal size when they are level with the labia majora or protrude just by a few millimetres.
Indications for plastic surgery of the labia majora and labia minora
● congenital or acquired hypertrophy of the labia minora or labia majora;
● deformation of the external genitalia due to age-related or hormonal changes;
● restoration of the shape and size of labia minora or labia majora after childbirth, trauma, inflammation.
● correction of congenital developmental pathologies;
● asymmetry of the left and right labia;
● excessively long labia.
Contraindications
Labiaplasty is not recommended in the following groups of patients:
● suffering from infectious, fungal diseases of the genitourinary system;
● under 18 years of age;
● suffering from gynaecological disorders;
● suffering from benign and malignant neoplasms of the genitourinary system;
● suffering from mental disorders.
How are the labia majora (lipofilling) and labia minora (labiaplasty) surgery procedures done
A surgeon performs reduction of the labia minora – labiaplasty – with the help of:
● Edge resection. The surgeon removes the edges of the asymmetric or enlarged labia, restoring the healthy appearance for the patient. New edges are stitched so that the natural scallopy shape remains. Sometimes women ask for an extreme reduction of the organ. Dr. Pavel Denishchuk would like to remind that the labia minora are needed to protect the vagina from pathogenic microflora and maintain optimal temperature and humidity in the internal genital organs.
● V-shaped resection. The surgeon removes a wedge of tissue of the labia minora in the area of growth or asymmetry. Sutures are placed on the edges of the wound. This method of labiaplasty is indicated for patients with high sensitivity of the labia, for whom it is a very responsive erogenous zone. This type of surgical intervention makes it possible to adjust the shape of the organ, while preserving sexual sensations to the maximum.
● Lipofilling of the labia majora. Makes it possible to replenish the lost volume in the labia majora. The procedure involves injection of the patient’s adipose tissue into the area requiring correction.
What results can be achieved with the procedure
After labiaplasty, the symmetry and shape of the external genitalia are reconstructed. The female patient regains confidence, liberation in bed, freedom to choose clothing and sports activities.
In order for the patient to be satisfied with the result of labiaplasty as much as possible, and to complete the process of recovery without complications, it is necessary to avoid sexual intercourse for 2 weeks after the procedure and avoid going to the gym and saunas for a month.
