Nose wings
Wide or narrow, asymmetrical, fleshy, sagging, in-falling nose wings — all these are aesthetic defects of the nose wings. They develop due to a hereditary predisposition (ethnic characteristics), injuries (burns, fractures, bumps, falls), diseases or failed surgeries.

Indications for correction
● nostrils that visually lengthen the nose;
● asymmetric nostrils;
● the need to eliminate the effects of trauma, a failed procedure or illness;
● a wide Negroid nose among Europeans;
● meatiness of the wings of the nose;
● sticky nostrils during breathing;
● shortened nostrils.

Types of corrective procedures
The narrowing of the wings of the nose is carried out by several methods, depending on the task:
• Correction by excision of the wings of the nose in the area ofthe nostrils. Such a mini-operation is used to reduce the wings of the nose, to eliminate fleshiness, the effects of trauma, asymmetry, reduce nostrils. It is performed under local anaesthesia.
• Rhinoplasty (closed or open) — during sinking (“sticking”) of the nostrils on inspiration. Such procedure is performed under general anaesthesia. Its main point is to collect a small piece of cartilage (for example, from the patient’s auricle) and transplant it into the area ofthe nostrils. The cartilage has to form a new framework and expand the nostrils.

Contraindications
Surgeons do not advise removing wide wings of the nose or other deformities when there are contraindications:
● under 18 and above 60 years of age (under 18 years of age facial structures continue to form and grow, so it is impossible to plan the result after a while; and after 60 years of age, the regenerative capabilities of tissues deteriorate significantly, healing after surgery is complicated);
● malignancies, tuberculosis, HIV;
● weakened body;
● asthma;
● blood coagulation disorders;
● pregnancy and lactation.
In other cases, rhinoplasty of the wings of the nose is allowed.

What results can be achieved
The plasticity of the wings of the nose eliminates the asymmetry, corrects large or sticking nostrils, makes the nose more elegant, and the profile is sophisticated.

How to prepare
14 days before the procedure, patients shall avoid alcohol, cigarettes, hormones, anticoagulants, and aspirin, aggressive cosmetic procedures (laser resurfacing, chemical peels).
Seven days before the procedure, the patient shall undergo an examination: take blood tests, do an ECG, a CT. Surgeons recommend that women pay a visit to a gynaecologist before the intervention and examine the endocrine profile.
What is the rehabilitation process like?
Due to the low degree of invasiveness, oedema and bruising are rare and resolve quickly.
Within a month after the plastic surgery on the wings of the nose, the patient should take care and:
● do not go in for sports;
● do not sunbathe to rule out roughening of the scars;
● do not go to bath houses and saunas;
● sleep only on their back to minimize injuries;
● do not apply make-up (for at least 2 weeks)
As prescribed by the attending surgeon, it is also important to use an ointment to minimize scar formation.
